A Brief History of Tae Kwon-do |
 |
Tae Kwon-Do
is the Korean art of self defence and quite simply means the ‘Art of Hand &
Foot fighting’. It is a version of an ancient form of unarmed combat
practised for many years in the orient. Tae Kwon-Do came to be perfected in
it’s present form on 11th April 1955 in South Korea.
Translated from Korean ‘Tae’ literally means to jump, kick or smash with the
foot."Kwon’ denotes a fist, chiefly to punch or destroy with the
fist and’Do’ means art, way or method.
Following extensive research and development by it’s founder Major General
Choi Hong Hi It was latter introduced into the UK in 1967 by Master Rhee Ki Ha.
To the Korean people Tae Kwon-Do is more than a mere physical use of
skilled movements It also implies a way of thinking and life, instilling a
concept and spirit of strict self imposed discipline and an ideal of noble
moral.
In these days where violence and intimidation seem to plague our modern
societies, people are turning to Tae Kwon-Do, not only as a superb means of
self defence but as great way to keep fit and healthy.
Tae Kwon-Do is a program of self development that has no boundaries, young
or old, men, women and children. It’s appeal and benefits are there to be
discovered.
